In the bay of Gökova, the 'heaven´s valley', the sun kisses the sea. Surrounded by green hills, the turquoise coloured Aegean Sea enters deep into the heartland. Sea and land meet in in an abundance of smaller and bigger bays in front of vast towering mountains in the north and gentle hills in the south. At its head, the bay of Gökova unfolds into a wide marshland plain. At the base of the mountain, slightly above this plain, which is covered with little meandering rivers, the picturesque village of Akyaka is located. There the gentle waves break against a small beach with fine golden sand. Fresh spring water runs from the mountains into the sea, reducing the sea´s salinity and providing pleasant refreshment during the hot summer.
